Johanna M. Keamy
Immigration Attorney
Ms. Keamy practices Business Immigration law with a focus on entrepreneurs and corporate matters for small and large businesses.
She is actively involved with global contacts for her business clients and establishes liaisons with International Trade Specialists from around the world. She has represented United States businesses and industries that sponsor highly skilled foreign workers seeking to enter the U.S. temporarily or, after demonstrating the unavailability of qualified U.S. workers, on a permanent basis.
This diverse group of businesses, corporations, and international investors includes telecommunications specialists, health care employers, CEOs, importers and exporters, international medical graduates, professors, researchers, and professionals across many other industries. Ms. Keamy has also represented families seeking permanent residence for spouses, children, and other close relatives to lawfully enter and reside in the United States.
Ms. Keamy lectures in the area of business immigration and was recognized by the United States Marine Corps, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, for sharing her expertise in immigration law at the 2012 Marine Corps Installations West Legal Assistance Conference.
Attorney Keamy is also a respected legal commentator on U.S. immigration law. Her legal analysis has been featured in The New York Times, where she was interviewed and quoted on immigration-related legal issues. She has also been interviewed by DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) regarding constitutional protections under United States law, further reflecting her reputation as a trusted authority on complex immigration matters.
In 2011, Ms. Keamy received a “Top Attorney” nomination in Corporate Transactional Law for San Diego County, California.
Ms. Keamy obtained her Juris Doctor from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where she was an Honor Roll student and a member of the International Law Society. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Southern Maine and also studied at Universitaire DuMaine in Le Mans, France.
Ms. Keamy is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), a national bar association of immigration attorneys and law professors dedicated to advancing the practice of immigration law. AILA is affiliated with the American Bar Association and is represented in the ABA House of Delegates.
An active volunteer, Ms. Keamy has contributed to AILA-sponsored creative writing contests, the California Music Institute, and the U.S. Department of State Children’s Unit. She is also a longtime supporter of the arts, including local ballet and symphony organizations.

Carlos Tavares, CFLS

CARLOS TAVARES is a California State Bar Certified Family Law Specialist (CFLS) licensed to practice law in California and the United States District Court, Southern District of California.
Mr. Tavares’ practice focuses on Family Law. He has prior experience as a construction defect litigator but has been committed to a family law for more than a decade. He is dedicated to professional excellence and has experience in all aspects of Family Law litigation. He is experienced in complex and high net worth case matters including conducting financial analysis of marital assets, custody and visitation disputes, enforcement of court ordered support obligations, separation, pre-nuptial and marital settlement agreements.
LEGAL SERVICES FOR MILITARY SERVICE MEMBERS
Service Members have a significant layer of overlap in Family Law proceedings and failure to be aware of these rules can result is adverse results for the Service Member. Though many family law attorneys advertise experience in this area, mistakes are made regularly regarding pensions, survivor benefit plans, jurisdiction, and the Lautenberg Act. FAP proceedings are commonly used as a strategic weapon to gain leverage against the Service Member and any Family Law proceeding must navigate the Family Law process in conjunction with the Military Regulations.
Mr. Tavares has significant experience representing Military Service Members and offers a discount to active duty military personnel. References are available upon request.
Mr. Tavares is a member of the California Bar Association and the San Diego County Bar Association Family Law Section. The San Diego County Bar Association was established in 1899 to further the principles of professionalism, collegiality, and integrity. Mr. Tavares remains committed to the tenets of this organization and to serving the legal profession and the public.
Mr. Tavares enjoys coaching his son’s Little League and his daughter’s softball. He is an avid Martial Artist and is a regular guest instructor for the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and other military units. His greatest joy is being a husband and father.
